Think Outside the Cocktail

Shrimp is great, but don’t limit yourself to only shrimp cocktails.

Shrimp is surprisingly versatile and shows up in many delicious dishes.

Atlantic Seafood Market in Old Saybrook sells shrimp and garlic ravoli, shrimp and scallop pie, stuffed jumbo shrimp, shrimp bisque and dill shrimp salad.

You can experiment with countless dishes at home after purchasing cleaned raw shrimp, colossal shrimp, cooked cocktail shrimp, Maine red shrimp and shell-on shrimp by the pound. You can serve them knowing that there are no pesticides, hormones or anything else in them.

Shrimp appears in just about any cuisine you feel like eating tonight. Shrimp can mix into your favorite pasta dish. It goes well in tacos and stir fry.

You can bake, grill and fry shrimp. Shrimp can be part of a casserole or complement rice. It’s a staple in gumbo and po’ boys.

Mix them in a nice garlic sauce for a mouth-watering meal. You can put them in a spread or on toast for appetizers.

Shrimp can be very mild, as found in a coconut sauce, or very spicy. They can go in quesadillas and definitely soups.

As with most things, fresh shrimp is better because it has the richer flavors. You’ll want to showcase that in whatever you cook.

If you’re still unconvinced about shrimp’s ability to go with just about anything, take the word of a true expert on the subject:
